What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture literally means 'needle piercing," the practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomic points in the body (called acupoints or acupuncture points) for therapeutic purposes. Along with the usual method of puncturing the skin with the fine needles, Integrated wellness Zone also uses heat(Chinese herb Moxa is ignited and heat given with it is called Moxibustion),suction with cups known as Cupping and Electro-acupuncture, the application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture needles to stimulate the points. The acupoints (acupuncture points) are stimulated to balance the movement of energy (qi) in the body to restore health.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, and they are often described as being not much thicker than a human hair. Insertion of the needle is usually completely painless, although occasionally you do feel something. Depending on what is being treated and the needle technique involved, you may feel a mild ache, numbness, or an 'alive sensation' at the needle. This isn't unpleasant and is a sign that the acupuncture is doing it's stuff.

Does Acupuncture really work?

Yes. Thousands of people can testify to the very dramatic results that can often be obtained through acupuncture. Success depends on many factors such as the general health of the patient, the severity and duration of the illness, and how their condition has been managed in the past. No two people are the same and it is one of the big strengths of acupuncture that we treat people individually to get better results.

How does Acupuncture work?

Several processes have been proposed to explain acupuncture's effects,primarily those on pain.Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the Central Nervous System(the brain and spinal cord) to release biochemicals or hormones like endorphins and opioids into the muscles, spinal cord and brain, thereby reducing pain by either changing the experience of pain by influencing the body's self regulating systems. The biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional wellbeing.

Acupuncture has been documented to alter brain chemistry by changing release of neurotransmitters and neurohormones and also affecting processes in the central nervous system whereby a person's blood pressure,blood flow and body temperature are regulated.

Auriculotherapy is a process in which stimulation of the external ear is utilized to alleviate health conditions in other parts of the body. This is a clinically effective treatment modality utilized for the relief of chronic pain and De-addiction therapy. The external ear has been shown to have a striking similarity to an inverted fetus pattern wherein each part of the auricle corresponds to a specific part of the body. Specific points on the ear can be stimulated to alter various pathological patterns in the body.
